As a new student, choosing the right software for your Mac or Windows computer can be confusing, but no worries, we have a list of recommended software to ensure you're covered.

In the list below, you'll find a list of basic software all computers should have.

Microsoft Office: As a student, you're eligible for 5 free licenses to the Office Suite of software to install on any device you'd like (Mac or PC).

Simply sign into your student E-Mail, select your account (top right) > Select "My Account": > then scroll until you see "Office Apps" > then "Manage". From there, you can click "Install Office".

Microsoft Office for Mobile (iPhone or Android): Simply download the Office App, or the individual programs (i.e. Word, Powerpoint, etc.) > Then sign-in using your student E-Mail account.

Antivirus:

  • AVAST!: This software is free to use, but does offer a premium version with advanced features, however if you are looking to keep your computer safe, the free version covers all the bases. (www.avast.com)
  • AVG: Free to use, offers free version similar to AVAST!. Offers great protection as well. (www.AVG.com)
  • Trend Micro: Paid. Offers many levels of protection, the base version works well (https://www.trendmicro.com/en_us/forHome/products/antivirus-plus.html)

If you have any questions regarding software provided by instructors, open a ticket.

*Please Note*: While Technology Services is happy to help you correct issues with software related to coursework (i.e. Respondus, Office), we are unable to work on other issues with machines owned by students (broken screens, won't turn on, etc.)
